Mother's Day Gift Ideas Any Mom will Love

4/27/2009 12:00:00 AM

Stepping stones – Any Mom or Grandma would love to receive stepping stones decked out by little hands.  Gems, tiles and footprints make these stepping stones one-of-a-kind.  Kits and all of the necessary supplies can be found at your local craft store.  If you are planning these stones as a surprise or need to travel with them keep in mind they take a few days to set up.

Family Brag Book – Print out your favorite digital photos, sized to take up only half of the page.  Set your kids on task to write memories or to draw pictures on the other half of the paper.  Mount in a scrap book or photo album.  These brag books are a great way to keep Grandparents in the loop!

Art Gallery – Collect the art projects scattered about the house and create an art gallery.  The laundry room, hallway or living room can become a gallery for the day.  Mom will love looking over her favorite pieces.  Hang a simple shelf to hold the clay, noodle and sand creations that Mom has been given over the years.

Honey Dos – Get the kids involved and knock out some of the “honey dos” hanging around the house.  Pick easy ones so you can get as many of them done as possible.  Mom won’t mind hammering while eating her breakfast in bed.

Flower pots – Spruce up the deck or front steps with some flowers.  Terra cotta pots can be found at any garden department.  Let the kids loose with paint (Patio Paint brand works well), stickers and stencils.  Once the paint has dried seal the pot with an oil or water based polyurethane.  For the really creative soul try tiles and a mosaic pattern.  Purchase tile or make your own by breaking up old plates (between two towels), lay out your design and adhere tiles to the pots with tile adhesive.  Fill in the gaps with grout and let dry.  Stock up on seeds or potted flowers that make Mom smile.  Don’t forget the potting soil!

Recipe box – Ask your kids about their favorite meals and you will be laughing for days.  Pick up some inexpensive recipe cards and have you kids write down how they think the meal is made.  If your kids are not old enough to write it down themselves suggest they draw pictures of the ingredients and write the recipe down as they tell it to you.  Gather up some of the recipes that your family enjoys and slip the kid version and the real recipe into a recipe box.  Impress Mom even more by gathering the groceries needed for the family’s favorite dinner and help the kids (or have them help you) make a family meal.  Make it the most spectacular gift by contacting extended family to get Mom’s favorite recipes from childhood.  Locate the keeper of the secret family recipes and convince them you won’t go public.  Add these special recipes to the box and reap the rewards!
