  • Over 21? You should Text and Drive.

Last week, the Missouri legislature passed a law prohibiting drivers 21 or younger from sending, reading, or writing an electronic message while driving. Studies show that 80% of automobile accidents involve a distracted driver and "texting" ranked number one as the teen distraction with 50% of teens admitting to texting and driving. If you're caught breaking the new law, the fine is $200.

Okay, I agree distracted driving is dangerous. Duh. And, I am dumbfounded that anyone can ...

  • It's All About ME!

I have been to the mall and I have watched the teens in t-shirts with rude slogans and images. I have read countless bumper stickers that make me dread the day my daughters are completely reading and ask, "Mommy what does that mean?" I've come to expect this from some teens and adults (and I am very grateful to know many terrific teens who are wonderful, honest, polite people going against cultural trends).

  • Moms, What's in Your Wallet?

I was cleaning out my purse the other day and I was reminded that the contents no longer resemble those of my pre-mommyhood purse. This is an inventory of my purse... Before Children (BC) and After Delivery (AD).

BC: Pens with blue or black ink and pencils with erasers that had not been chewed. A pad of post-its.

AD:  Crayons and miniature notebooks with butterflies and princesses. If a pencil lingers, it is decorated with Disney Characters ...

  • Daddy Can Fix It...

Over the years, we've had a few toys or possessions break that required a little extra TLC. My mother gave my oldest a wooden rocking chair for her dolls. One of my teenage students thought he could sit in it (keep in mind that it was too small for my toddler) and he broke part of the wood. My husband had to repair the rocker.

Likewise, my husband is an electronics guru and he's had ...

  • KC Parking Lots are Out to Get Me...

I can't tell you how many times I've met friends at Crown Center, the Plaza, or Downtown to have them walk up to me, running late, with the immediate explanation that they had a difficult time parking. I always respond that I'm so sorry and a try to offer a tip on the perfect spot for whatever we're doing. Over the years I've learned which spots are best for what I plan to do and who is with me ...
