The Kids, They are a Growin'

My oldest celebrates her 8th birthday this weekend. Eight years old! Half-way to sixteen!! How did that happen? Last I knew I was walking the living and dining room loop trying to get her to take a nap. And now she’s eight?

It just doesn’t seem fair that I didn’t get more time with her as a toddler and preschooler. She is growing up too quickly and try as I might, I can’t seem to stop her. My mom once said that for her birthday each year, what she wanted was to be able to take one of her kids and spend the day with that child at whatever age she chose. As I was growing up I chalked that up as one more nutty thing that mom said but now as a parent myself, I see exactly what she meant. What I wouldn’t give to go back and spend a day with two-year-old Tori. Fortunately I have many good memories of those days to hold onto.

I remember when Tori was an infant that people would tell me how quickly time passes and to treasure it. I would nod in agreement, but it wasn’t until I turned around and she was turning six, then seven and then eight that I truly realized the wisdom of their words. So if you are rocking a newborn or your back is strained from bending over while helping a new walker, take my word for it, before you know it your little one will be blowing out eight candles on his cake.

While we spend the weekend eating cake, opening presents and celebrating with family and friends, there is a little part of me feeling sad that she is another year older and another year closer to leaving the nest. Happy Birthday dear, sweet Tori! May your day be as special as you are to me.

First of all the Klein's wish you the Happiest Birthday!

But I agree where does the time go.  Last night my oldest was up til midnight.....it was really annoying but it was kind of fun to lay in bed with no fighting or yelling or grumpiness!  We sat and watched the end of the Fashion Show (on Bravo) and I was truly amazed of her fashion sense--what she thought was nice, beautiful and truly amazing!  Then our tv watching got good..switched over to HGTV--this sparked a money question at 11 pm at night.  She was asking about what homes were worth & what exactly is taxes!  TAXES! (yuck)

She is seven should I really be explaining what taxes are to her!

It was nice 2 hours of one on one with some conversation but for the most part just hanging out with my little girl who is not so little anymore!

So sweet.  I've defnitely heard my fair share of "it goes so fast."  Like you, I've recently started to realize that is so true.  Have fun celebrating!

We're only half as far... my oldest will soon be 4... and I'm already starting to feel the "it goes fast." Kindergarten will be here before I know it. Yikes!

What a great reminder to cherish each day! Happy Birthday Tori!

I am sending my oldest son off to college this fall for the first time.  Time goes by so fast!  I can remember every birthday party theme from the 1st to the 18th birthday.  In his adult eyes, I see the toddler I used to cuddle and I tear up as he leaves for his own independent life.
I have a two year old at home now and I cherish every moment I have knowing is such a short time, she will be off to college and into the world.  I slow down for her, because at times I may have rush through my sons childhood.  My first born I was ready for every new stage and hurried to be there.  Now I know that it will come and go so fast that I have slowed down the stages and enjoy the ages.
