Like many others, I'm a big fan of fall. I love the cooler weather and the changing leaves. I also like all of the holidays and the special moments they bring. Of course, I won't lie, I really like the excuse to drink more hot chocolate.
Is there anything better to do while drinking hot chocolate than reading a good book?
Around here, we've been gearing up for our first trip to the pumpkin patch with a few good books. I had packed them away along with our autumn decorations. Now, they sit waiting on our shelves for frequent reading.

From Seed to Pumpkin by Wendy Pfeffer and illustrated by James Graham Hale. This is a book in the Let's-Read-and-Find-Out Science series. My children love the simple description of how a pumpkin grows. I've learned a thing or two as well.

The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin by Joe Troiano and illustrated by Susan Banta. This is the cutest story about a square pumpkin who saves of patch of round pumpkins. It is a great story about how you can't judge a “book or a pumpkin by it's cover.” This book could lead to some wonderful discussions with your children about not judging people by their appearance.

The Pumpkin Patch Parable by Liz Curtis Higgs and illustrated by Nancy Munger. This is a special story that is quickly becoming a tradition in our house. It is a wonderful way to illustrate for children how God can fill a person with a joy that shines. It's especially fun to read right before carving a pumpkin!
