Birthday Mornings at Our House

I don't really recall if I came up with the following idea or if I stole it from someone. My kids couldn't care less how I got the idea, they're just glad I decided to do it.

You see, we now begin birthday mornings with a bowl of ice cream instead of our usual oatmeal or eggs. Yes, the sugar makes my kids hyper for most of the morning. However, I think dealing with their sugar highs is a small price to pay for the special memories made by a such a tradition.

We add to the excitement by using a special plate. Our special plate is nothing more than a red plate I bought at Walmart. You could also use a fancier version such as this.

So, do you have any birthday traditions besides cake and presents? I'd love to know!

Although this is our daughters 1st birthday in just less than a month this is all new to us.  Your idea is totally fun.  One I will use come next year.  We have decided that on our kids birthday we are taking off that day from work and taking them to the zoo or some other special place.  A hang out day with mom and dad thats not just on the weekend we think would be fun.  Thanks for your idea also.  That's a great one!

Kelly, I love that idea.  I have a birthday shortly after the holidays, so usually at least one of my parents took vacation.  I also remember my mom taking off the day and taking my brother out of school to take him to a ball game on his birthday.  Good memories.  Happy Birthday to your little girl!

We also have a Birthday Plate (ours says "Happy Birthday" and it's from Hallmark). Each year, Daddy buys one rose representing each year for the girls and writes a note. On first birthdays, we create a time capsule with special notes and memories to be opened on the Sweet 16 Birthday. Each year, we have a friend party / a special outing / and a Birthday Dinner with Grandparents. We also love cashing in coupons for free Happy Meals and Ice Cream thanks to http://www.birthdayfreebies.com/!

I can remember on my 16th birthday,I got up that morning,it was on a Saturday, and my mom had breakfast on the table waiting for me along with a card. There were no presents on the table which I thought was a little strange, but i didn't give it much thought. As I was getting ready to eat,my mom insisted I open the card,so I did.Inside was a key,and I knew immediately it was for a car. What was strange, there was no new car in the driveway or the garage, and I thought how strange is that?,and about that time my mom told me that my dad had it ready to go for me down at the dealership and that they were just doing a few more minor details to the car and that I could pick it up within the hour.I remember being so exited,I was just extatic. My mom drove me downtown to the dealership and I was able to pick up my new car.I was so happy,I remember I drove that car all day long, and of course I had to go show my new car to all my friends and take them crusin. That was the best 16th birthday anyone could ever ask for.
