Reusable Ice Cubes Save Me a Load of Dishes

I'm a fan of white dishes and clear drinking glasses. All that to say, it gets bit difficult around here remembering whose glass belongs to which kiddo since they all look the same. This only gets more challenging when we host play dates. At least it was challenging before I started using reusable ice cubes.

One day, while walking through Target, I picked up a bag of reusable ice cubes in the shape of fruit. I simply washed them and popped them in the freezer. I surprised the kids with them and they were delighted. They remembered who had the purple grapes and who had the green apple without any help from me. Neither of them seemed to mind when the ice cubes “melted.” I kept them in their glasses all day and hand washed them at the end of the day. Now, it's easier to make sure my kids only use one drinking glass a day. I'm all for anything that creates fewer dishes to wash!

This time of year is the perfect time to find reusable ice cubes at discounted prices. I recently bought a package at Old Navy, though I think they might be easier to find at someplace like Target or Walmart. They were shaped like fish and came in four different colors. In fact, we recently gave them away as a birthday present. I'm hoping the gift works for the little boy's family like it worked for me!

This is a great tip!  We have a family of three, but probably wash at least eight glasses a day. :)

That is such a cool idea!  We have used colored ponytail holders (not used for hair) wrapped around glasses to differentiate.  But this sounds more fun, and more washable.

That is a great idea!! I will have to look at Target next time I'm there to see if they still have them or maybe at WM!! Perhaps they'll be in the clearance section so that I can save some money as well.

This way  won't have to make sure that the ice cube trays are always filled up.

Hey all, I just saw them yesterday in the Target dollar section!

We went with a little different method but same concept! :) I couldn't stand how many cups we were going through a day so my kids have color coded cups. This way I can tell who has used too many cups and they can be responsible for washing them! I love the ice cube idea! Might do that when these cups wear out! Thank you!
