Festival of Butterflies at Powell Gardens

Every year we make a point to visit the Festival of Butterflies at Powell Gardens. My girls love seeing the tropical butterflies, native Missouri butterflies, and hundreds upon hundreds of Monarchs! The event is great family fun.

Powell Gardens Butterfly Festival
We went this weekend (you can still attend Aug. 13-15) and we had a great time! The girls made butterfly hats with antennae and butterfly feeders. We saw the entire life cycle of a butterfly (and moth) firsthand. Fancy Nancy presented storytime and led the Children's Parade, and we had a blast exploring the gardens and discovering Big Bugs throughout!

These are a few of the photos from our day at the Butterfly Festival:

I'm really wanting to take my kids to this too- I think they would love it, especially my 7y/o daughter. If your girls enjoyed this I highly recommend getting the butterfly house that they sell at many stores..you send off for the catepillars and then you watch them gorge. then you put them in the house when they make their chrysalis and wait for them to emerge...it really is an amazing thing to see and it's super easy so no extra stress for Mom- you release the butterflys a few days later too, so no "cruelty" involved :)

I took my girls yesterday for the first time and we too had tons of fun! It was an awesome experience! The nice thing about visiting Powell Gardens is taking the free trolley ride to visit the different sites. We explored the Silo, Chapel, Ant Hill and of course the Butterfly Conservatory. The fun was endless!
The weather was absolutely beautiful too. Sure it was hot, but worth seeing the expressions of my girls faces when they experienced the beautiful nature around them.

Thanks for inspiring me to take our kids to Powell Gardens. The Festival of Butterflies was a lot of fun and we were able to take some great photos of the kids. We bought an annual membership at half-price so we are now ready for next year's Festival of Butterflies, too!
