Summer is ending TOO soon!

We're enjoying a wonderful summer as a family - a nice vacation, Royals games, Worlds of Fun, Festivals, and many many family outings around town, but I have to say "The Simple Things" are some of our favorites.

Sunday afternoon, we took the girls to Longview Lake Marina to feed the fish (we save the heals from our bread and any another stale pieces for fish and ducks). It was a beautiful day on the lake. The girls love the water, the rocking of the dock and the sheer excitement of the fish as they have a "Feeding Frenzy" fighting for every last crumb of bread. Daddy throws in a large pile of bread crumbs all at once and the carp attack it with full force. The girls then go into a "Giggling Frenzy" and Daddy is thrilled... just the reaction he was hoping for!

We also love outings to the park... some of our favorites being Leawood City Park (close to home), Penguin Park (giant animals), Lowenstein Park (Butterfly Garden!), Loose Park (Rose Garden and Spraygrounds) and Antioch Park (Wild West ambience). It's great to visit new parks to discover what hidden secrets we find. This summer, we discovered three Pirate Parks in town that were new to us!

The local nature centers are another favorite. This week, Emily and I are taking a Crayfish class at Burr Oak Woods (FREE) and her birthday party will be held at Lakeside Nature Center. The nature centers are free and they offer great educational programs. We love the nature trails and the girls enjoy seeing the new animals. Plus, they're never crowded or hectic, so it's a great peaceful outing.

Summer also means free bowling for kids, summer movies, reading lots of library books, berry picking and Saturday morning blueberry pancakes... and so many fun filled days of saying, "What sounds good today?" and doing whatever that may be at our leisure.... only one month left!

I have met many moms who are eager for school to start and ready for routine. I have to admit, I'm not ready for that routine to resume just yet... and we plan to relish every last day of Summer!

What about you? Are you loving your summer? Had enough? Want more? Do tell!

We are still loving summer!  My kids are sleeping in as we speak (a luxury in our house :-)  Still planning a few fun end-of-summer events (late-night ice cream, swimming, exploring a few places we have on our summer list) before the back-to-school swing begins.  Enjoy it while you can -- they grow up way too quick!

Wow! Sounds like some great summer fun & I too think summer is wonderful.  You have given me lots of great ideas- now I just hope we can get them all done before summer is over!

I was just lamenting to my husband tonight, that school starts in 3 weeks and I'm definitely not ready for it.  Feels like we're just getting in a groove...and all summer we've relaxed thinking we have lots of days to get all the fun in and now it seems like we didn't get everything done.

I have no idea why I dream of moving south! I now know that I would really miss having seasons and it really makes me love summer more but I do wish it would slow down! I always dread the day Deanna Rose or Worlds of fun closes for the summer...

The housing edition we live in has a bass pond and a swimming pool,so the grandkids are really enjoying that. The lake is just a half mile up the road from our house where people can go boating and fishing and camp out,so theres always something to do here during the summer. The grandkids aren't looking forward to going back to school, although grandma is!

I am so sad to see the summer fun ending with the kids (I have four) but I need the routine that the school year inevitably brings.  Most summer activities are limited to one, two or four weeks in length. This means our routine is constantly changing and therefore a constant source of surprises and occasional frustration.  Kids (and this mom too, I admit) thrive on routine and have much more manageable emotions and attitudes when they know what to expect.

We have throughly enjoyed our first KC summer using the neighborhood assoc pool on a near-daily basis, discounted summer movies at the local cinema, seeing our very first professional baseball game ever (thank you KC Parent for those free Royals tickets), rookie tennis lessons with Blue Valley Rec, visiting the Narnia exhibit at Union Station, and seeing Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the Starlight Theatre.
