McSocks

A couple of weeks ago we met some friends at McDonalds for lunch. Not my first choice, but as a before Kindergarten treat, Ally got to choose lunch and so McDonalds it was. Without even thinking, Ally put on her Crocs, which was well and good, until it she wanted to play on the play set. At that point I realized she didn't have any socks. Floors at indoor play places give me a certain "eeww" factor and so I told her to just play with her Crocs on. Ally proceeded to announce to all adults who were around the play area, "my mom forgot my socks so that's why I have to play with my Crocs on." A mom who heard her told her that if she went to the counter and asked for socks, they would give her some.

I was a bit skeptical, but thought I'd give it a try and it turned out, that mom was right! I went to the counter, asked for socks, the woman asked how many pairs I needed and then went into a storage room and came out with a brand new pair of socks for Ally. The day was saved and I didn't have to think about her bare feet touching the floor-a win-win!

Oh that is great!! thanks for the heads up...I wonder if this is at all locations or certain locations? There has been plenty of times where we've had the flip flops with no socks moments and have had to skip McDonald's and choose antoher place like a park because I did not want her going barefooted and did not want to risk having upset another parent for my child wearing shoes. This is a great and "drama" saving idea from McDonald's.

That's odd but kind of cool.   Who'd of thought? :)

    They really think of everything!

Love your blog! Great tip about the socks - and glad to hear they were brand new. The only thing worse than the floor of the playplace is having to wear used socks to play on it :)

They also still give out the "kiddie cones" at many of the McDonalds as well. On days when the weather isn't condusive to playing outdoors we go and split some chicken nuggetts, play at the playplace and follow it up with a kiddie cone. I have noticed a move from the tubes to a more open "tree house" look which I like better as well. I always get worried about how clean it really is in the tubes since I can't even see/don't go up there.

That was wonderful. I think I would take a minute to send a note to express my appreciation. :)

Thanks for sharing! This could be valuable information someday since my daughters usually just wear sandals or slip on shoes without socks.

So do the socks have the golden arches printed on them? ;)
  • Leslie Young 3 Sep, 01:29 PM

I wish more places would do that. Usually places charge you to use a pair or make you buy new ones they have for sale! I guess it's a good thing that large purses are in style now so we can all stick an extra pair of socks in there too :)

    Impressive McDonalds... good to know.
  • Lisa Jones 3 Sep, 03:33 PM

Thats so cool! I never knew that! This is very helpful to know this! thanks :)

That is great but I do know that a lot of places do not do that.  I watch for clearance sales.  You can usually pick up socks for a quarter or less a pair.  I then keep a bag in my van!  This way if we happen to stop somewhere and they want to play, they have socks!  Walgreens had a sale 2 weeks ago that I got socks for ten cents a pair! The oldest thinks this is great!  Ecspecially when one day on the way to school she stepped in a big puddle as soon as she got out of the van!  She went and grabbed the sock bag and was ready again!

Thanks! Very useful tip!  I think I might have worried if the worker came out with used socks.  I'm sure they would have washed them, but you never know.  "eeww"

That is something that I have never heard of.  It is funny what you find out in funny ways.  What do you mean, they do not charge for the socks?  Way to go Golden Arches!!
  • Rosemary Gustin 8 Sep, 03:06 PM

Our McDonald's charges for the socks!  :(
