A Christmas Carol with Gerald Dickens, A Special Engagement
The great-great grandson of Charles Dickens is returning to MCPL for a special engagement. A professional actor in England, the energetic Gerald Dickens leaps, laughs, and sobs as he portrays the voices of A Christmas Carol.His striking resemblance to his great-great-grandfather and his dramatic rendition of A Christmas Carol bring the classic to life. Refreshments will be served. No audio or visual recordings or still photographs are allowed during the performance. Registration is required.

Night Before Christmas Carol
Join Charles Dickens in his study for a very special night. On this evening in 1843, he creates his holiday classic, "A Christmas Carol." Renowned Dickens scholar, author, playwright, and lecturer, Elliot Engel has crafted a work that allows David zum Brunnen to portray the 17 "Christmas Carol" characters and Charles Dickens himself. Dec. 2-4, 9-11 at First Baptist Raytown. During the first two weekends of December annually, more than 600 First Baptist family members present the story of Christ’s birth, life, death and Resurrection. A dazzling blend of heart-stirring music, drama, and dance will transport you back to the very first Christmas in Bethlehem, as well as the miracles, crucifixion, resurrection and Second Coming of Jesus Christ. Be sure to get your tickets early for this annual Heart of America tradition.
Kansas City Symphony Presents TubaChristmas

Joy to the World: A Christmas Concert presented by Shawnee Mission Health with the Kansas City Symphony
Dec. 5 at Kauffman Center for Performing Arts, 1601 Broadway Blvd., Kansas City. All members of the community are welcome to attend this festive event, created to show Shawnee Mission Health’ appreciation for their support. There is no cost to attend, but tickets must be reserved in advance by calling the Kansas City Symphony Box Office at 816-471-0400. Up to four tickets can be reserved. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis and doors open at 6 p.m. Parking is available in the Arts Center Garage for $8 or valet for $16.
Children's Christmas Opera: Amahl and the Night Visitors

One evening three kings, following the Star of the East to Bethlehem, seek shelter for the night. They stop at the home of Amahl, a poor crippled boy who lives with his widowed mother. Inspired by the tale of a ‘kingdom built on love,’ Amahl offers his own simple gift to the Christ Child. Please join us for this Christmas Classic. This is a free community event. Christmas In the Barn

Black Friday Picture Frame Ornament
Nov. 26 at Home Depot Locations across the Metro. Take a shopping break and join our hands-on workshop where you and your child can build a keepsake for your holiday memories! You’ll work together to create a picture frame ornament, perfect for adding some personalized decoration to your Christmas tree. Christmas on the Farm Dec. 3 from 2-7pm at Watkin's Woolen Mill Historic Site, 26600 Park Road North, Lawson, MO. Visit with costumed interpreters as you stroll along lantern-lit paths to the Watkins family home, where you will be greeted by the smell of hot cider and wassail, and the sound of Christmas carols. Enjoy free samples of traditional treats, flaming of the plum puddings, reading of the family letters and a visit with Father Christmas. Activities at the visitor center will include kids crafts and live traditional holiday music. This event is free of charge and the Watkins home is open for the duration of the event.
Autism Friendly Santa
Dec. 3 from 10am-1pm at ACI Learning Centers , 6394 College Blvd , Overland Park, KS. Free event. Families of children with autism spectrum disorders, challenging behaviors, and other developmental disabilities will find this event an especially enjoyable experience versus the traditional local mall alternative. Apple cider, cookies, crafts, and the ACI Learning Center play area will keep every child happily entertained until it is time for their optional photo with Santa!
The KCS Holiday Express Dec. 15-20 at Union Station, 30 W. Pershing, Kansas City. The KCS Holiday Express is a festive, six-car train that brings Santa Claus and his elves to communities throughout the company’s U.S. rail network at scheduled stops. Guests to the train can visit with Santa Claus and walk through three cars filled with holiday displays. Each event is free, open to the public and no tickets are required. In addition, at each scheduled stop, a charitable contribution is made to the local Salvation Army to provide warm clothes and other necessities for children in need. The Holiday Express was created in 2001 as volunteers dedicated more than 8,000 hours to transform retired rail cars. Today, these cars feature a smiling tank car named Rudy; a flatcar carrying Santa’s sleigh, reindeer and a miniature village; a gingerbread boxcar; the elves’ workshop; a reindeer stable; and a little red caboose.

Walk down a woodland path lit by torches to an ice sleigh, telescopes and a bonfire. Bring your camera for photos in the ice sleigh; view the night sky; see live owls; and drink free hot chocolate. Write a letter to Santa with pen and ink and create your very own ornament. What do oranges have to do with Christmas? What types of gifts were given? Learn how Christmas was celebrated in 1904! Find old-fashioned stocking stuffers in our gift shop. All ages welcome. On December 3, join us for a special Christmas concert in the schoolhouse, featuring the Edgerton Rainbow Connection Children’s Choir. The performance will begin at 1:30 pm, followed by a visit from Santa and free refreshments.

A free night of holiday cheer for the entire family, this evening event includes live holiday music and carolers, holiday crafts for adults and kids alight, spiced cider, vintage toy display and selfie stations all in the traditionally decorated farmhouse. Enjoy the crisp night air as you stroll down the holiday luminary trail. Children will enjoy the writing station with letters to Santa and vintage Christmas cards and a special guest appearance from Santa himself!
