There are so many places to trick-or-treat in Kansas City, families enjoy a variety of events. From Trunk-Or-Treats at local churches to special festivals and fairs, this is your guide to Halloween in Kansas City.

Tips:

  • Please keep in mind that some events may be canceled in the event of inclement weather, be sure to verify with the venue before you go.
  • Some events require advanced registration as noted below.
  • Costumes encouraged!

Visit the Pumpkin Patch
Kansas City is rich with local pumpkin patches, each with their own theme and fall attractions. Jumping Pillows, Moonbounces, Petting Zoos, Pumpkin Cannons, Barrel Train Rides, Live Entertainment, Corn Mazes, and more are just a few of the attractions your family will enjoy. Pumpkin Express Train Rides
Belton Grandview & KC Railroad, 502 E. Walnut, Belton, MO. Pumpkin Express Rides weekends of Oct. 10, 17, and 24 at 12:30, 2:00, and 3:30. $9/person. Come, take a step back in time to the first half of the last century and ride a train like your grandparents may have ridden out to the pumpkin patch. Wear your costume and enjoy fall fun.  Board our 1920's era passenger coach, or our open-air excursion car and take a ride behind our 1950's diesel locomotive through Old Towne Belton, Missouri and the surrounding area. You could even ride in the cab of the locomotive with the engineer.

Flashlight Fridays at the Liberty Corn Maze 
Liberty Corn Maze, 17607 NE 52nd St., Liberty, MO. All. 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm Fridays thru Halloween. $10 Adults / $8 Child. 8167819196. The Liberty Corn Maze is exciting and challenging at any time, but just imagine trying to navigate through the labyrinth of trails at night using only your flashlight! Flashlight Fridays are a tremendously popular activity as guests love getting lost in the dark. With four large mazes to choose from, visitors can trek through a BBQ smoker, ribs and sauce, steer, and rodeo rider or blaze through the American Royal logo on an amazing adventure filled with twists and turns. Bring your flashlights and your sense of direction...you'll need both.

Fall Harvest Days at Paradise Park
Saturdays and Sundays through Halloween Noon-6pm at Paradise Park 1021 NE Colbern Road, Lee's Summit, MO. All aboard! Everyone loves our good old-fashioned tractor-pulled afternoon hayrides! You’ll enjoy a relaxing ride throughout the park and hear funny stories, sing silly songs, play great games and never stop laughing with your family and friends. Sip on hot chocolate while toasting marshmallows. Make a fall memory while you show the kids how to make S’mores on a crackling campfire! Fall Harvest Days are an amazing round-up of family fun for everyone. Make it a full family day of adventure and fun with a Max Pak for everyone to enjoy unlimited play all day long.

The Great Pumpkin Fest
Worlds of Fun, 4545 Worlds of Fun Ave, Kansas City, MO. Weekends thru Halloween. 816.454.4545. One of the most bewitching family-friendly ‪‎Halloween‬ events in opens at Worlds of Fun on September 19. At the Great Pumpkin Fest, there's trick-or-treating for little ghouls and goblins, a kids' costume contest, Snoopy and the PEANUTS gang, kid-sized frights that every age will love, plus a petting zoo and all your favorite rides at Planet Snoopy.

Zombie Attack is Back
Fridays & Saturdays thru Halloween from 7-10pm at Paradise Park 1021 NE Colbern Road, Lee's Summit, MO. Paradise Park has been taken over by zombies, and we need your help! The adventure will begin as you take on the role as a soldier. We have found a few of the zombies’ secret hiding places and will guide you as you make your way down these creepy paths. Our team will equip you with laser weapons to put a final stop to these crazy zombies. After you make your way to one of our zombie attack trailers, this experience “goes mobile” as you ride through our labyrinth of winding paths to fight off even more zombies where they lurk. So gather a big group of friends, join us at the park, and HELP US SAVE THE WORLD!

Enchanted Forest: Independence
Oct 16, 17 , 23, & 24 from 7-9pm at George Owens Nature Park, 1601 S. Speck Rd., Independence, MO. Enchanted Forest brings storybook characters to life along candle-lit trails. There’s a pirate ship with booming cannon, a hayride, and snacks for purchase at the end of the trail. Brought to you by the Powerhouse Theatre Foundation and Independence Parks & Recreation. Admission is $3 per person for everyone 2 years old and up.

Enchanted Forest: Lenexa
Oct. 22 (Oct. 23 if there is inclement weather), 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park, 87th Street Parkway & Lackman Road, Lenexa. Enchanted Forest has something to delight even the smallest Halloween revelers. For one night in October, Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park is transformed into the Enchanted Forest. Visitors will enjoy free activities including performances by marionette puppets, magicians and singers along the trail around Rose's Pond and fun photos in the photo booth. Stroll the seasonal displays, visit friendly characters and enjoy performances at your leisure. All ages will enjoy the free Enchanted Hayride. Kids ages 12 and younger will also have fun at the pumpkin painting station and playtime on the inflatables. Parking at Indian Trails Aquatic Center and Cedar Ridge Christian Church.

Spirits from the Past
Oct. 23 & 24 at Missouri Town 1855, Fleming Park. 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. $10.00 per person. Advance Reservations only. As darkness envelops Missouri Town, the village comes alive with goblins, ghosts and other spooky creatures.  Visitors will encounter a variety of unworldly sights and sounds at this fun-filled family oriented Halloween event.  Complimentary hot cider and a special appearance by Edgar Allen Poe are but a prelude to the haunted hayride that concludes this night of surprises.  Advance reservations required!

30th Annual Fairy Tale Forest at Martha Lafite Thompson Nature Sanctuary
Oct. 23-25 at Martha Lafite Thompson Nature Sanctuary, 407 N. La Frenz Road, Liberty. Children. 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm. Children under 2 are free Fees: $8/person; members $5/person; Family Rate avail. This non-scary Halloween event is sure to delight you and your little ones! Walk through a quarter-mile trail lit with over 100 jack-o-lanterns carved by local students. Meet fantastically fun native animal characters and a few goofy fairy tale folk who are more than willing to give away some treats and maybe a trick or two. Afterwards, go inside the Nature Center to meet real live animals, enjoy our educational exhibits, and make a cool spooky craft. Proceeds of this special event benefit the Nature Sanctuary and its education programming. Registration is not required.

Trick-or-Cache at Antioch Park
Oct. 23 from 5:30-7:30pm at Antioch Park, 6501 Antioch Road, Merriam. Admission: $10 per person ($11 nonresidents), or $27 for a family of four/less ($30 nonres). 9138313359. Try a new family activity this Halloween! Search for glow in the dark caches filled with candy hidden around Antioch Park using Global Positioning Systems (GPS). GPS units, a tutorial, and glow sticks are provided on this modern day scavenger hunt. Bring your flashlights! Children under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.  Participants registering as a family will be loaned one GPS unit per family. Those registering as individuals will each be loaned a GPS unit.  Join us after your haunted hunt for hotdogs, s’mores, and spooky stories around the campfire at Shelter #2.  This exciting event is just $10 per person ($11 nonresidents), or $27 for a family of four or less ($30 nonresidents).  Register today by going to www.jcprd.com, and then follow the “Register for Activities” link and search for program barcode 30049. Wornall House Ghost Tours
Weekends Oct. 23-Nov. 1 from 6:30-8:30pm at John Wornall House Museum, 6115 Wornall Road, Kansas City. 10+. 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. 15.00. 816-444-1858. Do ghosts walk the rooms of the Wornall House? How did Victorians mourn their dead? What kind of surgery happened in the Wornall dining room during the Civil War? Can spirits be contacted from beyond the grave? Learn about the history and the mystery of the John Wornall House (6115 Wornall Road, KCMO) during one of our popular Ghost Tours. Tours leave every 15 minutes and last approximately one hour. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. StoneLion Puppets: Boneyard Jamboree
Oct. 23 from 6:30-8pm at Kansas City Public Library Plaza Branch, 4801 Main St, Kansas City, MO. All ages. Free. 816-701-3407. It’s a fun-tastic, non-scary Halloween spooktacular. Pumpkin Man drops in on this cabaret show along with the invisible couple, spooky skeletons, Martians, ghosts, and trick marionettes. Appropriate for all ages.

Boo at the Zoo
Oct. 24, 25, and 31 at Kansas City Zoo, 6800 Zoo Dr, Kansas City.From 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. children will trick-or-treat the Zoo while enjoying Halloween themed activities and entertainment. Be sure to explore the boneyard graveyard.

Spookfest: Night of Mysteries Revealed
Oct. 24 from 5-8pm at Science City at Union Station, 30 W Pershing Rd. Kansas City, MO. Third annual family-fun Halloween event at Science City. Come explore and reveal the mysteries of science with us!

Pumpkins on Parade
Oct. 24 from 4:30-9pm at Cave Springs – 8701 Gregory, Raytown, MO. 4:30 pm to 9:00 pm. Free. You’ll feel fall in the air as you stroll along trails aglow with hundreds of carved, lighted pumpkins at Cave Springs Park. There will be lots of fun-filled activities for the kids and food vendors will be on site.

Fall Harvest Party
Oct. 24 from 11am-2pm at Liberty Church of the Nazarene, 1400 Southview Dr, Liberty, MO. Free. 816-781-5696. Fun for the entire family, free food, chili cook off, face painting, games, archery, and more!

Kid Safe Halloween
Oct. 24 from 11am-2pm at Shoal Creek Living History Museum in Hodge Park, 7000 NE Barry Rd, Kansas City, MO. Trick or Treat door to door throughout Shoal Creek village. Wear your favorite costume and bring a candy bag. Elementary aged children only. Free admission!

Halloween Family Fun Night
Oct. 24 FROM 5-7pm at C.W. Parker Carousel Museum, 320 S. Esplanade, Leavenworth, KS. $6.00 Hotdog Combo purchase for free carousel rides. 913-682-1331. Wear your costume to the Carousel Museum and ride the carousel and play games! You'll be able to purchase a $6.00 Hotdog Combo and get free carousel rides. Trick or Treat OFF The Street
Oct. 24 from 4-6pm at Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop & Farm, 1200 Kansas City Road, Olathe, KS. $3/ages 3 and up. 913-971-5111. 2nd Annual Halloween Campout
Oct. 24 at Watkin's Woolen Mill, 26600 Park Road North, Lawson, MO. Bring the family camping and enjoy the park’s Halloween campout. Activities will include the spookiest campsite contest, a K-9 costume contest, campsite trick-or-treating (campers are encouraged to bring candy for trick-or-treaters) and a spooky nature program. Burning Scarecrow

BOO-TASTIC FUN! at Crown Center

DESPIC-0-WEEN

Historical Hauntings

Shawnee Town's Historical Hauntings is a real scream for Halloween fans. The Optimist Club of Shawnee-Mission will be selling snacks at the “Ghoul Café” and there will be: trick-or-treating, tractor drawn hayrides, Farmstead tours, an eyeball candy counting contest, opportunities for Halloween photos and costume contests with five separate categories and awesome prizes!

Create with LEGO® Bricks: Halloween

Trunk or Treat with the Overland Park Police
Oct. 24 from 3-5pm at Myron E. Scafe Building, 8500 Antioch Road, Overland Park, KS. Children ages 0-12. Enjoy a FAMILY-FRIENDLY, FREE, and FUN afternoon trunk or treating with the Overland Park Police Department. There will be 2 bounce houses, a cake walk, and oodles of candy! There will also be Overland Park Police Officers available to trunk or treat with you and show you the inside of their police cars. 

Halloween Happenings
Oct. 24 from 2-3:30pm at Meriam Marketplace, 5701 Merriam Dr., Merriam, KS. FREE. 913-322-5550. Jack-o’-lanterns ghost and bats. Witches, goblins and big black cats. Spooky spooks come out to play. It’s time to parade the costumes and have some spooktacular fun at the biggest pre-Halloween party in Merriam. Inflatables, Halloween craft and games, cookie decorating and “story walk on the streamway”.  Prizes awarded for funniest, best homemade and Family Costume. 
 

Spooky Springs Halloween Bash

Pumpkin Palooza
Oct. 24 from 9am-1pm at Sunflower House, 15440 W 65th St., Shawnee, KS. 913-631-5800. Free, fun, family-centered fall event. All proceeds go to Sunflower House- a children’s advocacy and abuse prevention center. Hand-painted pumpkins for sale,decorated by Greater Kansas City’s premier artisan. Monster Dash 5K & Lil` Monsters` Fun Run
Oct. 24 from 6-8pm at City Market, 3rd and Market Street, Kansas City, MO. $10-28/person. 816-569-4508. Halloween themed event for all ages, flat course to walk or run through the Kansas City River Market and treats for everyone! Participants receive a t-shirt, prizes, food and beverage at the finish line. Proceeds benefit Newhouse, a women's domestic violence shelter in Kansas City. Sponsored by KC Running Company

Trick or Treat off the Street
Oct. 24 from 4-6pm at Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop, 1200 E. Kansas City Road, Olathe, KS.  Admission is $3/person ages 3 & up and includes all activities!. Dress in your Halloween costume and experience 1860s fall living history activities. Admission includes a horse drawn hay wagon ride, games, crafts, and candy stations sponsored by local businesses. Please park in the parking lot near the Mahaffie House for this event.

Día de los Muertos/Day of the Dead
Oct. 25 from 1-4pm at KC Museum at Corinthian Hall, 3218 Gladstone Blvd, Kansas City, MO.  Free to participate (no rsvp necessary). Discover the history and cultural traditions of Dia de los Muertos. Enjoy music, storytelling, arts and crafts, and contribute to the community altar installation. This program is presented in partnership with Mattie Rhodes Center.

Trunk or Treat at St. John's UMC
Oct. 25 from 4-6pm at St. John's UMC Parking Lot, 6900 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, MO. All Ages. FREE. 816-523-6788. Safe and Fun Trunk or Treating for Families! Bring your little Trick or Treaters and join the fun in our Parking Lot! Enjoy our Games and Activities, Prizes, Costume Contest and Fall Food and Snacks! All Free! If it rains we will move the FUN inside to our Brookside Hall!

Fall Festival 
Oct. 25 from 5-7pm at Community Covenant Church, 15700 W. 87th St. Parkway, Lenexa, KS. Free. 913.631.0215. Come to our annual fall festival. Children will be able to go trick-or-treating throughout the building, there will be carnival games, crafts, balloon artist, live music, inflatables and a live chili dinner for all to enjoy. Admission is free however a suggested donation of one canned food item is appreciate to be donated to a local food pantry. Pre-register online at www.cccks.org to avoid waiting in lines the day of the event. 

Trunk N Treat
Oct. 25 from 5-7pm at Knox Presbyterian Church, 9595 W 95th St, Overland Park, KS. Free. Trunk N Treat. Free hot dog dinner. Great live music. Activity stations. Lots of car trunks filled with treats.

Trunk or Treat! Heritage UMC
Oct. 25 from 4-6pm at Heritage United Methodist Church, 12850 Quivira Rd., Overland Park, KS. FREE annual Trunk or Treat event. All families welcome as long as costumes aren't too scary for the young ones. Candy, games and a pumpkin patch are part of the fun.

Halloween Family Fun Night
Oct. 27 from 6-7:30pm at Kansas City Young Audiences, 5601 Wyandotte, Kansas City, MO. FREE event. KCYA's Annual Halloween Family Fun Night. Special performances, tricks, treats and the Artful Pumpkin Auction! Artful Pumpkin Auction - Proceeds Benefit CSA Scholarship Fund. Plenty of parking is available in the main STA lof off of 57th Street.  Help us be good neighbors by not parking in front of people's homes. 

Halloween Boo Bash: Gardner, KS
Oct. 27 from 6-8pm at Celebration Park, 32501 W. 159th St., Gardner, KS. 12 and Under. $3.00 wristbands for 2-12 year olds (gets you access to all the games and activities). Gardner Parks and Recreation will host the 19th Annual Halloween Boo Bash at Celebration Park.Come for an evening of ghastly games, spooktacular activities, lots of candy, prizes, a hayrack ride along the park trails and much, much more. This is sure to be one of the biggest and best parties of the year. Little ghosts and goblins can come dressed in their cutest, silliest and homemade costumes and get their picture taken for a costume contest.Winners will be announced at 7:45 pm followed by a fire-eating entertainer performance. The evening will conclude with a grand prize drawing!Free pop and popcorn will be available while supplies last. Concessions will also be open for purchase of other goodies. Wristbands will be sold in advance at City Hall from October 12 to October 27 at 4 p.m. In case of inclement weather, this event will be postponed to Wednesday, October 28th. A decision will be made by noon and hotline will be updated (913)905-1770.

LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW
Oct. 21 -31 at H&R Block City Stage, Union Station, 30 W. Pershing Rd, Kansas City. 6 years of age through Adult. 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm. $10 individual; $5.50 group of 15 or more. The “Headless Horseman” rides again in this musical by John Simons based on a popular tale from Washington Irving’s The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent. A night-time presentation about a hapless teacher named Ichabod Crane, a skinny, lanky, jittery schoolmaster who competes with a local fellow named Brom, for the hand of Katrina.  But what will happen on a dark, forbidding road when Ichabod encounters a ghostly specter? This Halloween season treat is suitable for audiences from ages 6 years old through adult.

IKEA Trick-or-Treat
Oct. 29 from 4-6pm at IKEA Merriam, 6000 IKEA Way, Merriam, KS. Children, 0-12. FREE Event! Give your kids an extra opportunity to show off their costumes at this indoor trick-or-treat event. Stop at our various "treat stations" throughout the entire store and then enjoy complimentary cookies and apple cider! Remember to wear comfortable shoes and bring a bag to hold the candy collected by your kids. The first 100 families to show their IKEA FAMILY card upon arrival will recieve a FREE IKEA blue bag!*We will stop passing out candy at 6pm, so please plan your arrival time accordingly!

The Doo-Dads Rock & Roll Costume Party at the Record Bar
Oct. 30 from 6-8pm at Record Bar, 1020 Westport Road, Kansas City, MO. Kids FREE Adults $5. It’s a ROCK & ROLL COSTUME PARTY at The Record Bar! Come on over and enjoy the Great Food, Rock & Roll Dance Party and Costume Parade.

NBC FALL FAMILY FESTIVAL & TRUNK OR TREAT
Oct. 30 from 6-9pm at Northgate Baptist Church, 800 NE Vivion Road, Kansas City. 0-100. 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. FREE. 816-824-2785. Fall Family Festival and Trunk or Treat Extravaganza. We will have plenty of food, drinks, live music, cake walks, balloon artists, police and fire vehicles to tour, carnival games, a silent auction, face painting and tattoos, costume contests and raffles for bicycles and lets not forget the CANDY at TRUNK OR TREAT!  It's a completely free family friendly event to come to in a safe, Christian atmosphere....the only "cost" item would be the silent auction fundraiser.  The silent auction is made up of donations from local businesses and put into a themed basket up for sale.

Lyric Opera: Scary Fairy Tales
Oct. 30 from 6:30-7:15pm at Kansas City Public Library Plaza Branch, 4801 Main Street, Kansas City, MO. Chopped off toes. Chopped off thumbs. Hands grabbing your ankle and pulling you underwater. Fairy tales can be scary, which also is part of what makes them fun. Kansas City actor Robert Gibby Brand and wife Linda Ade Brand, the Lyric Opera’s director of education and community engagement, talk the night before Halloween about the original—and creepy—versions of the Frog Prince, Rumplestiltskin, Cinderella, and other favorite fairy tales. Kids and parents can meet the water sprite, Rusalka, who wants to become “Part of Your World” like the mermaid Ariel. (Spoiler: sad ending.) Costumes are welcome. Treats are provided. 

BMO Harris Bank Trunk or Treat
Oct. 30 from 4-6pm at BMO Harris Bank, 7225 Renner Rd, Shawnee, KS. BMO Harris is hosting a Trunk or Treat providing children in the community a safe and fun trick-or treating alternative. The event will be held in the parking lot of the bank. Children simply walk up to each vehicle in the parking lot, and trick-or-treat. The vehicles are sponsored by more than 35 Area businesses and restaurants. The Police and Fire Departments will be there promoting lessons in safety.

Boos, Barks & Badges Halloween Parade
Oct. 31 from 10am-Noon at Downtown Lee's Summit, Lee's Summit, MO. Families and their dogs are invited to wear costumes and join in the costume parade from City Hall Plaza to Howard Station Park. After the parade, children are welcome to trick-or-treat at participating Downtown businesses. Awards will be given out for the best costumes at Howard Station Park.

Kids Fest

​Mildale Farm Fall Fest
Oct. 31 from 9am - 2pm at Mildale Farm, 35250 W 199th Street, Edgerton, KS. Free. 9138262957. Bring the family and spend the day exploring the Mildale Farm property and enjoy a number of fall activities during this free public event. Visi­tors can explore and picnic on the 158-acre site including the 22-acre rental property as well as about 136 acres of adjacent agricultural prop­erty, park near Mildale Farm’s main barn which features peg construc­tion and a hand-laid brick floor. Nearby, you’ll find cider and hot cocoa and a large pumpkin patch. A tractor-drawn hayride will take visitors to a fire circle in the south-central portion of the Mildale site, where they can roast marshmallows and enjoy storytelling. Catch-and-release fishing in any or all seven ponds within the 158-acre area will also be offered, so bring your own bait and tackle. While District fishing permits have been waived for this event, Kansas residents ages 16 to 74 and nonresidents 16 and older need to have a Kansas state fishing license. Restrooms will be available in the large equestrian barn, but the property’s two homes and other outbuildings will not be open during this event. Day of the Dead Family Festival
Nov. 1 from Noon-4pm at Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art , 4525 Oak St., Kansas City, MO.  All activities and performances are FREE and open to the public. Day of the Dead Altar Installation: Experience the altar installation honoring ancestors and write your own special remembrance. In collaboration with local artists through Mattie Rhodes Center, the 2015 altar will highlight the four elements of earth, wind, fire and water, and will feature a large scale suspended Papel Picado, sand paintings and four paper mache skeletons. Enjoy a 40-minute performance featuring Son de Madera, a popular, award-winning son jarocho band from Veracruz, Mexico. Performance supported by the Consulate of Mexico in Kansas City. Enjoy traditional Mexican dances with El Grupo Atotonilco, a Mexican folkloric dance group made up of dancers ages 7 to 17. The local dance group started in 1979. Parking in the museum garage costs $8. Members park free. Free offsite parking also is available nearby at Kauffman Gardens and Kauffman Foundation (4800 and 4801 Rockhill Road. Shuttle service not provided for this event.
