Cows Across Kansas City

Cows are a rich part of Kansas City’s heritage. Kansas City’s own American Royal hosts the “world’s largest barbecue contest,” one of the Midwest’s largest livestock exhibitions and a number of rodeos, horse shows and saddlebred competitions. This annual event is such a part of Kansas City’s roots, it even inspired the name for the Kansas City Royals baseball team.

Winter Animal Encounters in Kansas City

Visit animals at Kansas City attractions all winter long.

Dairy Days

July 15 is Cow Appreciation Day—celebrate with a dairy-themed tour. Kansas City kids can learn about dairy cows, farming, milk, cheese making, eggs and delicious dairy products at these local attractions.

Wild, Wild West

Kansas City is no longer the cow town it once was, but it holds its cowboy heritage dear, with many local traditions. Most notable is the American Royal, which hosts rodeos, agricultural competitions and education through programs and the American Royal Museum.

Animal Appreciation in the Kansas City Area

In our area, we are fortunate to have many places where we can learn about our native wildlife and appreciate the natural world around us.

Fun in Nature

Fall and winter in Kansas City offer a wide variety of events and festivals that allow families to have fun in nature. Here are a few of my favorites to give you some ideas to try this year.

Cool Adventures to Satisfy Penguin Fever

It’s safe to say that Kansas City has penguin fever! Did you know that Kansas City offers an array of cool penguin experiences…beyond watching them play at the zoo (which is cool too!)?

Warm Springs Ranch: A Wonderful Day Trip for Horse Lovers

This summer, take a tour of Warm Springs Ranch to learn more about Clydesdales and enjoy the majestic animals. Warm Springs Ranch, opened in 2008, is a state-of-the-art Clydesdale breeding facility offering tours to the public.

Under the Sea

June is National Zoo and Aquarium Month, a perfect time to visit your favorite local aquariums and see underwater creatures face-to-face in Kansas City.

Down on the Farm

For a taste of country life, visit Osborn, MO, just a little more than an hour away, for a tour of the Shatto Dairy Farm. A tour includes the bottling room, a milk tasting center with samples of many flavors of milk and watching the cows being milked by machine right before your eyes. Children love visiting the calves and may even get the chance to brush and bottle feed them.
